Czech Radio stations Radiožurnál and Radiožurnál Sport will again cover the Winter Olympics through live broadcasting from Beijing. The Games start on Friday, 4 February with athletes from around the world competing until 20 February 2022.
The Radiožurnál station will be reporting live from all competitions and events in which there are Czech athletes. Radiožurnál Sport will again dedicate its entire schedule to the Olympic Games, broadcasting every day starting from 5 February from 2 AM until midnight. Sports experts invited to comment on the events in the broadcasting include Martin Procházka, Kateřina Neumannová, Šárka Strachová and Ondřej Rybář. "Once again we want to show that it is possible to enjoy the Olympics even if you are driving the car or when at work," comments Ondřej Suchan, Interim News Director and Radiožurnál Editor-in-Chief.
"Czech Radio is the only radio in the Czech Republic that acquired radio broadcasting rights for the Beijing Winter Olympics. Our reporters will offer unique interviews with Czech athletes immediately after the competitions and authentic reports directly from the Olympic venue. Team of our sports professionals traveled to China, from where they will provide an exclusive programme for the listeners of Radiožurnál Sport and Radiožurnál," said René Zavoral, Director General of Czech Radio.
Radiožurnál and the digital station Radiožurnál Sport will be reporting live the men's and women's national hockey matches, all biathlon races and the races of Czech Olympic athletes - snowboarder and alpine skier Ester Ledecká, speed skater Martina Sáblíková and other sports stars - throughout the Olympics.
Every day, from 16.30 on Radiožurnál Sport and from 19.00 on Radiožurnál, there will be an hour-long Olympic special covered by Jan Pokorný, who will highlight the most important moments from the past day of the Winter Olympic Games in Beijing. The broadcast will also include a regular daily Olympic summary, which will report every half hour on the latest Olympic events.
Listeners of Lucie Výborná's Guest can look forward to exclusive interviews with all the Czech medallists. In addition, every day from 8.50 a.m. Radiožurnál will also broadcast special programme called Hero of the Day, where there will be presented powerful stories regarding sports heroes, not only from the Czech Olympic team.
Following the end of the Winter Olympics in Beijing, both stations will cover the Winter Paralympic Games, which will be held from 4 to 13 March 2022. On site, the event will be covered live by sports journalist Martin Minha.
On 31 January, Czech Radio launches a campaign promoting the coverage of the Olympics with a claim “Listen to the Olympics wherever you are.” The campaign’s visual shall gradually appear within outdoor, printed and online advertising including social media with competitions where you can win digital DAB+ radio or Panasonic red wireless headphones.
