Radio DAB Praha will start broadcasting in FM and change its name

15. prosinec 2022

On 2 January 2023, Radio DAB Praha, one of Czech Radio’s regional stations, which until now has been broadcasting only digitally, will start broadcasting in FM for the territory of Prague on the frequency 107.1. The aim of the change is to create a modern metropolitan public service station.

"I am pleased that Czech Radio is entering the new year with a beautiful gift for all Prague residents. From 2 January 2023, listeners in Prague will be able to tune in to our metropolitan station Radio DAB Praha on FM. Czech Radio has managed to find this new frequency and will thus be able to expand and improve our public service for Prague residents. I believe they will appreciate the broadcasting of this modern station, which delivers traffic news, informs about events in Prague and also plays pop and pop-rock hits," said René Zavoral, Director General of Czech Radio.

After more than three years, Czech Radio has decided to change the station's name to Radio Praha. The station will now be available on the FM band, on frequency 107.1, but listeners will still be able to listen in DAB+ or via the Czech Radio website and the mujRozhlas.cz mobile app.

The target group of Radio Praha is listeners of the younger and middle generation (i.e. ages 30-45) living in Prague or its vicinity, who are actively interested in life, culture and social events in the capital. The broadcast also aims to be of service to those driving in Prague by offering them comprehensive and timely traffic information.

The regional station provides high quality broadcasts with an emphasis on important information and events from the Prague area. During the day, the station offers updates on Prague traffic every 15 minutes, a newscast every 30 minutes, which specifically covers current events in the capital, and an informative report focusing on Prague culture, architecture, local history, design and sport every 60 minutes.

Even under its new name, Radio Praha will rely on a high proportion of music in its broadcasting – the music programme will consist of current songs and hits from the last 10 years. Moreover, the station’s music component will be supplemented in the evenings with interesting programmes focusing on minority music genres.
