Ondřej Zámečník was born in Pardubice in 1998. He received his musical education at the Pardubice Conservatory, where he successfully graduated in oboe under the guidance of Mgr. Jiří Křenek. He subsequently studied musicology at Masaryk University. In 2024, he completed his bachelor's degree with a final thesis focusing on the tramp song in the First Republic. He is currently studying a follow-up master's degree in musicology in combination with management in culture. He plays the oboe, the English horn, recorders and keyboard instruments. He also plays the oboe in the university orchestra. His favourite activity is creating critical editions.
Ondřej began his composing career by collaborating with the Masaryk University Symphony Orchestra. This collaboration has resulted in performances of two extensive symphonic poems, namely Vodník (The Water Sprite) and Krvavá svatba (The Bloody Wedding). He is currently also involved in chamber music. In addition to composition, his hobbies include canoeing, tramping, beekeeping, helping out in the family vineyard, music theory and working with notation programs.
