Martin Brunner is a composer, pianist and keyboard player. He performs his compositions mostly in his own bands and projects and he has published four studio albums with them. Two in the format of a classic jazz trio (Behind the Clouds, Still Warm to Touch) and then the album Morning Walks capturing a project where a jazz trio and a string quartet (Martin Brunner Trio & Epoque Quartet) get together and so far the latest CD, Levels of Life from 2019, tuned in rock.
Martin Brunner is a member of composers’ association Prague Six that composes music for a praised jazz big band Concept Art Orchestra. All three albums of the orchestra with the music of Prague Six were nominated for Anděl Award in the jazz category and the first of them got the prize in 2015. Occasionally, Martin Brunner composes for other instruments and genres, especially for classic chamber ensembles. They are e.g. compositions for piano Trio Clavio, Duo Teres or Duo Siempre Nuevo & Epoque Quartet. The newest project is a cycle of songs Time On My Own for a symphonic orchestra that SOČR will perform in 2022 as a part of the cycle New horizons.
As a pianist or keyboard player, Martin Brunner has performed in many ensembles and with various musicians (e.g. Lenka Dusilová, Jiří Šimek Electric Madness, Klára Vytisková, Beata Hlavenková, James Harries) and he has taken part in recording some CDs, e.g. in the River album by Lenka Dusilová or Electric Madness by Jiří Šimek. He currently teaches at Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory and College.
