Johann Joseph Rösler

composer (1771–1812)

The Bohemian composer, Kapellmeister, and virtuoso pianist Johann Joseph Rösler worked
in Prague and Vienna at the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century.

Although he became famous as a talented composer and charming pianist during his lifetime and gained the prestigious position of Kapellmeister with one of the most important Viennese musical patrons, Prince Franz Joseph Maximilian Lobkowitz, his name fell into oblivion soon after his death. Although most dictionaries of the 19th century still mention him, his music disappeared from concert stages. In addition, his name was often confused with the name of Anton Röβler called Rosetti, a composer one generation older who was a Kapellmeister in Wallerstein, later in Ludwigslust.
