Vlastislav Matoušek

Vlastislav Matoušek studied composition and music theory at the Faculty of Music of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and at the Institute of Musicology at the Philosophical Faculty of Charles University in Prague, where he has been lecturing since 1991 – currently in the position of senior lecturer – in the field of ethnomusicology and other disciplines of musical theory.

As a scholarship holder of the Japan Foundation he studied the bamboo flute shakuhachi under Kifu Mitsuhashi in Japan (1996). He plays shakuhachi solo concerts and performs with his Ensemble 108 Hz that specializes in experimental contemporary music and performs also Matoušek’s own compositions.
