Symphony No. 2 - Jiří Gemrot

16. březen 2016

„I started my work on the Symphony No. 2 in September 2012 and I finished it in July 2013. Unlike most commissioned compositions, this Symphony was created solely out of my inner need and as an attempt to summarize my composing efforts up to these days.

About five years ago, I wrote my first symphony for a chamber orchestra where I wanted to pay homage to two, in my opinion perfect principles of form in the history of European music – sonata and fugue. With the Second symphony I tried to manifest the fact that the classical four-movement scheme does not need to be negated or diffused. Quite the contrary, it can be cultivated and enriched."
