“A Boy and the Stars” tells a story of a young Jewish boy Petr Ginz and his fascination with astronomy. At the age of thirteen, he came to the Terezin ghetto where he published together with his friends a magazine called Vedem, full of beautiful poetic texts and pictures. At the end of September 1944, Petr Ginz was transported to Auschwitz where Josef Mengele sent him to death in the sadly infamous gas chamber. He was sixteen years old. In 2003, the Israeli astronaut Ilan Ramon took with him on board of a space shuttle Columbia a picture Moon Landscape by Petr Ginz. On its way back Columbia encountered serious technical problems and all the astronauts died tragically. It happened on the 1st of February, a day of birth of Petr Ginz.

The ceremonial of the international media awards for the best radio and television programmes took place in St. Luke Church in East London which has been the traditional setting for the London Symphony Orchestra concerts. Czech Radio programme prevailed in a tough competition over such significant world radio stations as Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty, Middle East Broadcasting Networks, BBC World Service and others.
The award ceremony took place on Tuesday, 9 November 2010. AIB has been awarding these prizes for the fourth year already.
