Project of Czech Radio Minute Plays Won Two Prizes at the Festival Prix Marulić 2013

Prix Marulić – Old Texts Revisited is an annual festival of radio plays based on texts from the literary and cultural heritage. Its basic aim is to examine and compare different ways and approaches in presenting old literary texts and our cultural heritage to the modern listener. The festival has been organized by the Drama Department of Croatian Radio since 1997. The festival comprises three categories: Drama, Documentary and Short Forms. It was the Short Forms category where Czech Radio representatives scored. Out of 16 submissions from across Europe, two Minute Plays from Czech Radio inspired by Bible were among the best ones.

The second place took the play How the Cuddlies Died Out by Daniela Fischerová and Home Birth by Petr Hudský was third. Both plays were directed by Aleš Vrzák. In Hvar Czech Radio was represented by the dramaturge and author of the project Minute Plays, Mrs. Kateřina Rathouská who also took over the awards.

In the Drama category Czech Radio nominated a sci-fi comedy with songs Off On a Comet adapted from the novel by Jules Verne. Although it did not win, it resonated very well during the following discussion.

The radio mini-play How the Cuddlies Died out is an apocryphal story on a Biblical theme (Noah´s Ark). Daniela Fischerová (*1948) is an author of radio plays, scriptwriter of short, animated or feature films, author of short stories, books of aphorisms etc. From the mid-seventies she has been writing poetry and prose for children.

Home Birth is also part of the Minute Plays project and it is a story adapting the Biblical theme of Cain and Abel. Petr Hudský (*1972) is a novelist and screenwriter; his works include a popular TV crime series.
