Rádio Junior’s Website Wins the European Award for Best Content for Kids

14. únor 2014

Rádio Junior is the proud winner of the European Award for Best Content for Kids, granted under the auspices of the European Commission. The online environment designed for Rádio Junior Web and Webík was awarded the first prize in the professional category. And to coincide with Safer Internet Day, the Czech Radio’s representative accepted the award in Brussels today.

“This award is a tremendous honour and joy and a clear sign that our station has set out in the right direction. We pride ourselves on the highest possible content quality and our programme is intended as a safe place for children – by the very definition of a public service station run by Czech Radio. At the same time we are trying to produce not only high-quality content to cultivate children’s knowledge and skills, but also appealing visual design for our web pages. We wish to let parents, grandparents, teachers and other adults who interact with the children’s world know that Rádio Junior can be a good companion and friend for even the youngest listeners. I believe that this is exactly how the audience will perceive this award,” says the Editor-in-Chief of Rádio Junior, Zora Jandová.

The winner was selected by a European jury comprised of six members. Prizes were given out in four categories: adult professionals, adult non-professionals, young individuals and school classes.

“The websites of Rádio Junior for kids truly deserve this award. They offer not only live broadcasts and an audio archive, but also amusing and playful educational content, from games to stories to an interactive section. This contains, for example, a “recorder” that enables listeners to simply record and send an audio message. There is also a helpline and advice section that provides answers to questions that children find intriguing or of interest,” says the Deputy Director General for Programme and Broadcasting, René Zavoral.

In the Czech Republic, the competition is co-organized by the Czech National Safer Internet Centre, a member of the international network INSAFE. “We are very pleased with the success achieved by Rádio Junior’s Web and Webík at an international level. We believe that this is a prime example of what a website for the youngest and most novice Internet users should look like. The combination of catchy and humorous illustrations along with a varied content gives children a wonderful introduction to the world of the Internet that is both safe and entertaining. Congratulations!” said Jiří Palyza, the Executive Director of NCBI, praising the success of Czech Radio.

Rádio Junior’s website has recently been completely redesigned with an entirely new graphic layout. Thanks to this new design, it now offers an innovative, easier and more user-friendly interface http://www.radiojunior.cz/. The Webík portal can be found at http://www.rozhlas.cz/webik/portal/.

Rádio Junior’s broadcasting can be followed on TV, digital radio, satellite, cable television and IPTV. Its content is available to listen to on the Internet and via mobile applications, and it also offers a pairs game application for Samsung Smart TV.

European awards for the online content for kids

The competition is organized by the INSAFE network of national centres for safer Internet, in cooperation with the European Commission. Organizers seek to highlight quality web content for children aged 4-12 and motivate authors to create other websites, which will provide young people with new opportunities to learn, play, explore and invent. The awards ceremony took place for the second time this year. In addition to EU Member States, projects have been submitted by Iceland, Norway and Russia.
