Karel Zýka to Chair EBU’s Advisory Body

2. prosinec 2015

Czech Radio’s Interim Director General Karel Zýka will assume an important post in one of the advisory bodies of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) – becoming chair of its Operations Council. He has thus reinforced his position as one of the top ranking CR representatives in the EBU, the union of associated European public service broadcasters.

Czech Radio’s Interim Director General Karel Zýka: “It is an honour not only for me, but also for Czech Radio as an institution. It proves that we play an important role within the EBU as a respected and valued partner of Western broadcasters. EBU’s Operations Council is one of the union’s bodies concerned with strategic policies and has a major say in the further development of the entire union.”

The Operations Council prepares background documents for EBU’s strategic projects, especially with regard to business strategies, negotiations with key partners from the European commercial sector, and the assessment of business, marketing and technological developments within public service broadcasting throughout Europe. The Operations Council of the EBU also consists of delegates from France Television, ZDF (Germany), RAI (Italy), YLE (Finland), TVP (Poland) and TRT (Turkey). The Operations Council is currently composed of eight members whose terms end in 2017.

Czech Radio has a total of ten representatives participating in EBU’s structures, which handle radio broadcasting, European media legislation and news reporting. We are among the most active members of EBU’s radio division.
