Czech Radio workers' strike on November 3 will limit broadcasting of nationwide and regional stations
The Czech Radio workers’ strike on Tuesday, 3 November 2026, will significantly affect broadcasting across nationwide, digital and regional stations, as well as online services. Regular programming on many stations will be replaced by music, repeats and archive recordings, while news and current affairs coverage will be reduced. Czech Radio will continue to provide essential news updates and inform the public of any emergencies during the strike.
Due to the scope of the strike, it will not be possible to maintain the usual broadcast format. The changes will affect live-hosted programs, news reports, and regional programming.
On most stations, broadcasting will be interrupted before 8:00, 12:00 and 18:00 by a statement from the Public Initiative about the reasons for the strike. Listeners will be continuously informed about the restrictions directly on the broadcast, on the news website iROZHLAS.cz, via the Czech Radio website and the můjRozhlas mobile application.
"The management of Czech Radio fully respects the right of workers to express their position through a strike. At the same time, it is aware of its responsibility towards millions of listeners who rely on Czech Radio's broadcasts every day. Therefore, it has taken organizational measures to ensure the provision of public service to the maximum extent possible. We have done our utmost to maintain basic news coverage and readiness to respond to emergency situations. Our priority remains to provide trustworthy and impartial information even in these non-standard conditions. We thank listeners for their understanding," says Lidija Erlebachová, Czech Radio's spokeswoman.
Radiožurnál and Plus will adjust their programs, iROZHLAS will limit updates
Czech Radio Radiožurnál will maintain its basic news service, but its broadcast will have a different format than on a regular working day.
Listeners will hear shortened, approximately five-minute-long news segments, music, and selected radio programs and documentaries that have been successful in international competitions, such as Systém Kaderka or Slovenská cesta.
The Zelená vlna traffic service will be provided at half-hour intervals, i.e. with a lower frequency than usual. Essential traffic information, especially warnings about dangerous situations on the roads, will remain intact. The editorial staff will be ready to respond to emergencies and, if necessary, launch a full-fledged crisis broadcast.
The digital station Radiožurnál Sport will not broadcast any live broadcasts during the strike, and with some exceptions, no programmess or magazines. The basic sports service will be provided by studio presenters.
Czech Radio Plus will not broadcast its usual live news and current affairs programmess. The news service will be provided by taking over Radiožurnál's programmess, while the remaining broadcast time will be filled with selected archive programmess and award-winning radio productions.
The changes will also affect the news server iROZHLAS.cz, which will switch to a limited mode. Instead of the usual continuous publication of news articles, current events will be followed primarily through a comprehensive online report. This will offer important information from home and abroad and will also cover the course of the strike. Other editorial content will be significantly limited.
Dvojka, Vltava and Wave will replace live broadcasts with music
Live broadcast blocks and programmes on the stations ČRo Dvojka, ČRo Vltava and Radio Wave will be replaced by music streaming on the day of the Czech Radio workers' strike. This applies to most of these stations' programs during radio prime-time between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
News programs will remain on the ČRo Dvojka station. Pre-recorded and rerun programmes will be broadcast in the standard way at the usual times, for example, Osudy, Příběhy z kalendáre or Četba na pokračování.
The programme restrictions will also affect the stations Pohoda, D-dur and Jazz to a lesser extent. Rádio Junior, on the other hand, will maintain its usual program offer with regard to children's listeners. Due to the high number of strikers, the production of more demanding literary-dramatic, musical, documentary or journalistic programs will also be stopped.
Regional stations: joint programming will replace most local broadcasting
The strike will also affect all regional stations of Czech Radio. Most of them will include a joint programme prepared from a single studio in Prague's Karlín. It will include a basic news service supplemented with music.
Listeners will not be able to hear many of their usual regional programmes or their regular presenters during the day. The restrictions will affect, among other things, regional current affairs programs Den v kraji and the popular program Humoriáda.
The broadcast will have a more uniform format compared to normal days, and individual stations will not provide local news and information to the usual extent. In the event of an emergency, the necessary information will be provided through the news broadcast of Czech Radio.
Restrictions on online services and symbolic interruption of broadcasting
The websites rozhlas.cz and mujRozhlas.cz and the mobile application můjRozhlas will also inform about the strike and its impacts. Users will find warnings about limited content availability and information about changes in broadcasting.
During the strike, the publication of new content, including current episodes of programmes and podcasts, will also be limited on Czech Radio's digital platforms. Only pre-prepared and published content, such as literary and dramatic works, will be available in full.
In podcast apps, users will be informed about this in advance in shows published the day before the strike, i.e. November 2. On the day of the strike, shows that are not published on that day will contain an audio message that this content is not available due to the strike.
