Czech Radio received the JTI international trustworthiness certificate

8. říjen 2025

Czech Radio has become only the thirteenth public media outlet in the world to receive international certification from the Journalism Trust Initiative (JTI) – a standard that confirms a high level of trustworthiness, transparency, and responsible journalism. The certificate is awarded on the basis of an independent audit, and the initiative is backed by organizations such as the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and Reporters Without Borders (RSF).

The certification is the result of a detailed evaluation of editorial processes, methods of verifying information, and levels of transparency. The audit also took into account the emphasis on responsible journalism and long-term support for the training of the editorial team. “As the media outlet with the greatest degree of public trust in Czechia, we decided to verify our quality through an independent international audit. The result is acknowledgment that ranks Czech Radio alongside the most respected public media outlets in the world. At a time when public service media are facing growing pressure and their role is being questioned, this certificate is clear proof that Czech Radio meets the highest international standards. For us, JTI is therefore more than a simple recognition – it is proof that our way of working stands up to global standards," said René Zavoral, Director General of Czech Radio.

Czech Radio received the certification in September 2025. The certificate is valid for two years. „On behalf of RSF, we welcome the JTI certification of Czech Radio. Public service media are important vehicles for spreading trustworthy, diverse and independent information to the widest possible audience. The Journalism Trust Initiative certification strengthens this goal, offering a clear stamp of credibility and accountability in a time when boosting trust in the news has never been more essential,“ added Benjamin Sabbah, Director of the Journalism Trust Initiative at Reporters Without Borders.

Among the 12 public media outlets that have been JTI-certified to date are CBC News and Radio-Canada in Canada; France Télévisions, France Médias Monde, and Radio France in France; RTÉ News in Ireland; Latvijas Televīzija (LTV) and Latvijas Radio (LR) in Latvia; Lietuvos nacionalinis radijas ir televizija (LRT) in Lithuania; Swissinfo.ch in Switzerland; Radio Taiwan International (Rti) in Taiwan; and Colorado Public Radio in the United States. In the Czech Republic, Economia is the only private media outlet to hold JTI certification.
