Czech Radio has one of the richest and most diverse audio archives in the world, reflecting the complexities of Czech history. The archive collections contain more than 100,000 hours of audio content and 25 million pages of documents.

The Archive and Programme Collections (APF) manage the Czech Radio archives and provide content support for the station’s broadcasts. They consist of four units: Archive, Sound Archive Library, Research Department and Library and Cataloguing Department. The APF is headed by Dušan Radovanovič.

The audio document collections are among Europe’s largest in scope and the station preserves Czech cultural heritage across various types of audio media (gramophone records, cassette tapes, etc.). Content ranges from unique radio broadcasts of significant historical events and valuable literary and dramatic works to radio and commercial music productions and exceptional radio programmes. An extensive paper archive includes scripts, employees’ personal files, programme-related documents, documentation of broadcast content, a great many letters from listeners and a substantial amount of operational material. A key component of the collection is its extensive archive of over 100,000 photographs.
