Radiožurnál Reporter Jaroslav Plašil Awarded the Billie Jean King Cup Media Prize for His Contribution to Tennis
Jaroslav Plašil, a reporter from the Czech Radio Radiožurnál station, received Billie Jean King Cup Media Prize from the International Tennis Federation (ITF). The prize is awarded by the ITF to journalists who have shown long-standing dedication to tennis.
“I feel excited about the award for Jaroslav Plašil. It is a result of his long-term hard work and incredible enthusiasm and it testifies to the outstanding quality of Czech Radio sports journalism,” says René Zavoral, Director General of Czech Radio.
Jaroslav Plašil, who received the award from the ITF President David Haggerty, has been commenting on tennis matches for over 15 years. He has been covering not only the Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup team competitions but, from 2005, he has been at almost all Grand Slam majors.
“Jaroslav Plašil is respected by his colleagues from media and the players alike,” says David Haggerty, President of the International Tennis Federation.
The prize, which has the form of a miniature of the cup for the winners of Billie Jean King Cup, was presented to the reporter at a press conference before the launch of the final match on Saturday 6th November.
“It is amazing. I have never been lucky enough to win something because I am not that good at tennis or football. So at least I got a prize for commenting,” says Jaroslav Plašil, who adds: “It is thanks to our tennis players. They make my job super easy by being so successful. It absorbs you and then it is plain sailing.”
The Billie Jean King Cup Media Prize was first awarded by the ITF in 2019.
