Jiří Pohnán

composer (born 1983)

Jiří Pohnán graduated from Prague Conservatory in trumpet which he studied under Jiří Jaroněk and in composition under Otomar Kvěch. At HAMU he continued to study playing the trumpet under Vladimír Rejlek and music directing under Jaroslav Rybář.

In present he teaches at a music school in Háje in Prague and he occasionally works as a music director. In present he devotes himself mostly to music composing; his primary focus is chamber and orchestral music.

He aims at interconnecting natural music tendencies with “modern“ composition elements. In June 2013, he was awarded the OSA prize The most successful young author of classical music."
