Paulina Nakashole, In Touch With Namibia
Once again we took a journey to the beautiful land of Namibia with special guest and current Miss Expat and model Paulina Nakashole. The Namibian student is based in Prague and still made time for the Friday Ripple Family despite her busy schedule.
Just returned from a charity show in Windhoek the capital city of Namibia. It was the perfect opportunity to encourage and commend her for the wonderful work she is doing creating hope for many children in her home country. Paulina also did us a huge favour by letting us premier the latest singles from Namibia, allowing us to put her fellow Namibians on the international map. We kick started the show with reggae tunes from Malawi, a group called Black missionaries with their famous song called Ndilibe Naye Chifukwa.
The African diva well known as the “Barefoot Diva” for performing without shoes. Her name is non other than Cesaria Evora performing Angola. It was a pleasure paying tribute to the late diva, one the pioneers who inspired many women in music.
The artist on the spotlight was “Namibia Artist Of the Year” Mushe and we selected two songs from his latest album, the title track Letter From The President and Don’t Quita. He was also performing at Paulina’s charity event
The show progressed on with more of Namtunes as we heated up the studio with one of Friday Ripple favorites, Lady May a true Namibian and African diva with her hit song Chokola.
By now it was clear Namibian music is bigger than we ever imagined and it was interesting because it was just the tip of the iceberg. Facebook Girl and Baby by Exit the Namibian sensation premiered for the first time ever on any radio station in the world made available by the persuasive Pauline who convinced Exit’s manager to a make a pre-release launch on the Friday Ripple.
It seems as if the Namibians have a pool of music types. The next songs that followed seemed to have been influenced by the Kwaito music culture just from across the border in South Africa. Satlam is well known for his energetic performances, he does his music with passion. We played two songs from him, You Gonna See and I do.
If you missed the show you can find it in our archive Jukebox.
