Lucie Africa Kostelecká – South African Music Ambassador

24. srpen 2012

Many would rightfully call Lucie Africa Kostelecká the South African Music Ambassador in the Czech Republic.

After a short stay in the Rainbow nation of South Africa, Lucie Africa Kostelecká has brought back with her South Africa. In all aspects of her life she radiates South African culture; she is even well spoken in the tongue biting native Zulu and Xhosa languages. It was no wonder she was confident and better than us in articulating the names and song titles of the South African artists who were part of the playlist. Like many of her fans who have watched her perform we were surprised at how well and passionately she has mastered languages foreign to her. She was quick to explain that it took almost three years of professional music lessons with local music legend Kylie Adcock.

To allow our special guest to comfortably settle in, we started the show with an album review of Synik’s new Sny City album. Born Gerald Mugwenhi, Synik is a Zimbabwean rapper who is breaking grounds with his hip hop album heavily inspired by the 2005 Sin City movie. He pays respect to Zimbabwe’s traditional music by infusing mbiras and karanga ngomas in the song Chenjerera which features Jnr Brown, Kito and Aura. Power cut featuring Metaphysics as well as Jnr Brown and MC Chita has already become a club favorite. Synik has also released the first African Hip Hop 3D music video for the song Sny City (featuring Aura and Kito.)

So now we focus on the most anticipated guest to visit us on the Friday Ripple. Lucie Africa Kostelecká will forever be respected for her big heart for Africa. Ever since her return from South Africa, she has released ,ata Pata and Chicken songs originally done by the late South African music legend, Grammy Award Winner and Civil Rights Activist Mirriam Makeba. The two songs are part of her project Music from the Heart of Africa. Through this project she hopes to bring joy to her fans and charity work to support the problematic education system in South Africa. She has collaborated with the Zululand Gospel Choir in an effort to create opportunities for the many unemployed youths.
